What is Aromatherapy?
Aromatherapy is a holistic healing practice that uses natural plant extracts—called essential oils—to promote physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. It’s considered both an art and a science, because it blends traditional plant knowledge with modern understanding of how scents influence the body and mind.
How does it work?
Essential oils are extracted from flowers, leaves, roots, or other parts of plants. Examples: lavender, peppermint, eucalyptus, frankincense.
These oils are inhaled (diffused into the air, steam inhalation, sprays) or applied to the skin (often diluted with carrier oils like almond or jojoba).
The aroma stimulates the brain’s limbic system, which is linked to emotions, memory, and even certain bodily functions.
What are the benefits?
People use aromatherapy to:
Reduce stress and anxiety
Improve sleep
Boost mood and relaxation
Relieve headaches or pain
Support immune health and respiratory function
